The Department of African, Middle Eastern and South Asian Languages and Literatures (AMESALL) is pleased to invite applications for a Postdoctoral Associate during the 2019-20 academic year to begin in September 2019. Initial appointment is for one year with possibility of renewal pending satisfactory performance and available funding. The Postdoctoral Associate will receive a $45,000 salary, health benefits, and office space. Postdoctoral associate will conduct research in their field, participate in academic activities of AMESALL, teach one undergraduate course, and work with the directors in organizing the symposium series on Global Africa and the Humanities.
The candidate should have a doctorate in sociolinguistics/translation/cultural studies, with a research focus on eastern Africa, widely defined as that area of cultural interchange within the wider Indian Ocean context. Proficiency in Kiswahili and another written language relevant to the study of the Indian Ocean experience will be an added advantage. All requirements for the Ph.D. must be completed by August 1, 2019.
