The Irving K. Barber School of Arts and Sciences (IKBSAS) at the University of British Columbia, Okanagan campus, invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in Sociology at the rank of Assistant Professor. The position will be held in the Department of History and Sociology and is expected to start on July 1, 2019.
We are seeking candidates with a specialization in gender, and its intersection with fields such as media, health, race or ethnicity. Candidates must have a PhD in Sociology, a strong record of research productivity, and proven ability to attract external funding. They must also demonstrate a commitment to student mentoring and supervision; an established record of excellence in undergraduate teaching and learning; and evidence of, or interest in, effective graduate teaching appropriate to career stage. They are also expected to show evidence of commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful, collegial, and conducive learning and working environment.
The successful candidate is expected to develop and maintain an active research program that enhances existing expertise in the department, complements established and emerging research strengths within the Faculty, and is well-integrated into the campus’ areas of strategic research focus. Teaching duties will include the Sociology of gender as well as appropriate introductory and core courses in Sociology, and new courses in the candidate’s research and teaching fields. Service expectations will be commensurate with rank.

(iv) A one-page statement of teaching philosophy and interests;
(v) Evidence of teaching effectiveness (please provide a complete set of university-issued teaching/course evaluations for courses taught over the last five years);
(vi) Up to three scholarly publications that demonstrate contributions to the field; and
(vii) The names of three referees who have been asked to submit letters of reference.
