2 Research Associates
at HERDER INSTITUTE for Historical Research on East Central Europe
The focus of our work at the Herder Institute for Historical Research on East Central Europe in Marburg is the history and culture of East Central Europe. Using the Institute’s extensive collections as a basis, we carry out our own research, including projects in the areas of history, the cultural sciences related to our collections, and the conception and implementation of multi-media information portals. The Herder Institute Research Academy (HIRA) takes care of all activities relating to career development.
The Herder Institute is looking for
two research associates (E 13 TV-H, 65%)
to assist from 1.3.2019 until 28.2.2022 with the project “‘Family Planning’ in East Central Europe from the 19th Century until the Authorization of ‘the Pill’”, which is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF). Both positions are subject to approval.
As part of the project, two long-term studies will be carried out on the history of “family planning” in Poland
(subproject 1) and in Czechoslovakia (subproject 2) from the late 19th century until the end of the 1950s.
As a prerequisite for these positions, candidates must be prepared to produce a monograph and shorter essays within the duration of the project and also to write reports on related research and conference trips. Successful applicants will be granted membership at the Herder Institute Research Academy, so their regular and active participation at HIRA events will be required. It is also expected that candidates for these positions have a good knowledge of Polish (subproject 1) and/or Czech (subproject 2) source study and literature studies. The working languages will be German and English. The job locations are Marburg and Giessen.

by 30 November 2018. We expect the selection interviews to take place at the beginning of January 2019.
The Herder Institute aims to promote and ensure equality for women and men in the workplace. Therefore, we strongly encourage qualified women to apply for these positions. Applicants who are severely disabled, and are equally suitable for the positions, will be prioritized in our decision-making process. The Herder Institute supports dual careers in its collaboration with the Philipp University in Marburg. We also pride ourselves in being a family-friendly institute and welcome applicants who have children. We offer, for example, a parent and child room for short-term needs as well as flexible working hours.
