Florida Atlantic University’s Department of History and the Center for Women, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Florida Atlantic University invites applications for a joint tenure-line appointment in U.S. LGBTQ History and Public History at the Assistant or Associate professor level. Tenure and promotion home will be in History.
While research fields and subfield specializations are open, an interest in Digital Humanities is encouraged. Teaching load is typically 2-3 and includes the “Introduction to LGBTQ Studies,” survey courses in U.S. and/or World History, and upper-division and graduate courses in field. Three of the University’s major strategic initiatives are the academic engagement with and promotion of Peace, Justice and Human Rights, Diversity, and South Florida Cultures; and the Assistant/Associate Professor is expected to be involved substantively in one or more of these. The faculty member also would be encouraged to participate in the college’s PhD in Comparative Studies program and in the development of an “Americas” multi-disciplinary area of excellence.

Degrees from outside the United States must be validated by an organization belonging to the National Association of Credential Evaluation Service (NACES), with an indication of the documents the evaluation was prepared from (official transcripts, diplomas, dissertation abstracts). Prior to appointment, the candidate must submit official, sealed transcripts from all institutions where graduate coursework was attempted, whether or not a degree was obtained, as well as an original NACES evaluation, if applicable.
