Stanford University, Graduate School of Education
Jim Joseph Post-Doctoral Fellowship, Jewish Education
Institution Type: | College / University |
Location: | California, United States |
Position: | Post-Doctoral Fellow |
DEADLINE: November 15, 2018
The Concentration in Education and Jewish Studies (EdJS) at the Stanford Graduate School of Education invites applications for the Jim Joseph Post-Doctoral Fellowship in education and religion for a two-year appointment, beginning in the fall of 2019.
The EdJS is a unique hub for studies at the intersection of religion and education, and we invite applications from people from any disciplinary background that brings them to ask questions about how people learn to develop, articulate, or practice religious commitments. We are looking for candidates whose area of research and scholarly interest will most enrich our understanding of the relationship between education and religion, broadly considered, and whose areas of scholarship can be supported by Stanford faculty across the university. We have a scholarly interest in studies of Jewish education and we understand that there is a great deal to be gained by looking across religious communities, traditions, and phenomena.
The Fellowship will provide a minimum annual salary of $72,000, and will include benefits. This is a full-time position. The Fellow will be expected to be in residence at Stanford, and to divide their time between working on research projects coordinated through the EdJS and developing their own research projects. We may explore opportunities to teach while at Stanford. The Fellow may not undertake any other sustained teaching or employment for the duration of their post-doctoral appointment.
Applicants must have earned the PhD within the past 3 years. Advanced doctoral students applying must include a statement from their dissertation supervisor indicating that they will have the Ph.D. conferred by July 1, 2019.
Applicants should submit the following materials electronically, in .pdf form. Please send inquiries and applications to stanfordedjs@stanford.edu.
- A letter of intent stating how the applicant would use the fellowship period to further their research and scholarly publication (not to exceed 3 pages);
- A current CV;
- A writing sample, not to exceed 20 pages;
- An official transcript from the applicant's doctoral-granting institution.
- Names and contact information of three recommenders
Stanford University welcomes applications from all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, creed, religion, disability, age, sex, national origin, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other factors as prohibited by law. Candidates from all American and foreign universities are welcome.
Phone or in-person interviews may be conducted for finalists.
