With support from the Andrew W. Mellon Foundation, the Humanities Research Center (HRC) at Rice University will award two postdoctoral fellowships to junior scholars who will participate in the 2019-20 Rice Seminar: The Value of Consciousness and the Consciousness of Value. This seminar’s organizing questions may be framed as follows: Does consciousness bestow on its possessor a special kind of value? If so, what is this special value and what is it about consciousness that bestows this value on its possessor? In what ways, if any, does our conscious experience (in perception, emotion, and thought) of conscious beings disclose their distinctive value?
This is a full-time, benefits eligible, one-year appointment, with an annual salary of $55,000 and a $3,000 allowance for research and/or relocation to Houston. In order to apply, please click on this link.
Eligibility:
Applicants from any humanistic discipline or interdiscipline are eligible, but there is preference for candidates whose work focuses on Philosophy of Mind and/or Value Theory. Candidates must have received a PhD between July 1, 2016 and June 30, 2019.
