The Department of History at Oakland University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in late medieval or early modern European history. We seek candidates with active research agendas in areas of specialization that complement our programs and resources. The person filling the post will teach a 2/3 load comprised of survey and upper-level courses, and may also work with M.A. students. Candidates must demonstrate experience with or a commitment to diversity and inclusion.
Oakland University is a nationally recognized doctoral research institution located on 1,443 acres of scenic land in the cities of Rochester Hills and Auburn Hills in Oakland County, Michigan. The University has 132 bachelor's degree programs and 138 graduate degree and certificate programs. Academics include programs in the College of Arts and Sciences, School of Business Administration, School of Education and Human Services, School of Engineering and Computer Science, School of Health Sciences, School of Medicine, and School of Nursing.
Applicants must have a Ph.D. in medieval or early modern history or a closely related field completed by the August 15, 2019 appointment date. Candidates should submit a cover letter, a curriculum vita, unofficial transcripts, an article or chapter length sample of scholarship, and sample syllabi or similar evidence of teaching effectiveness. Candidates should also provide three reference letters submitted through the online application. In the "professional references" section, candidates should provide the contact information for references, then have references use the link provided to submit letters. In addition, candidates should submit a diversity statement that describes their interest or efforts in furthering diversity and inclusion, e.g. through mentoring, pedagogy, activism, faculty recruitment/retention, or research on issues related to diversity and social inequality.
