The Department of History at Texas State University invites applications for a professor of practice, any rank, in museum history and museum studies. The successful candidate will be expected to teach specialized undergraduate and graduate courses in the practice of public history in museums. Preferred areas of expertise include one or more of the following or related specializations: critical museum studies, critical/inclusive museum interpretation and audience development, museum education, exhibit design, material culture, collection standards and best practices, museum ethics, museum management and administration. Candidates must demonstrate a strong record of museum practice, including experience within museums, galleries and/or cultural centers and the ability to work collaboratively with public institutions and audiences; for the rank of assistant professor, a minimum of 5 years, for associate professor, a minimum of 10 years, and for professor, a minimum of 15 years. We seek a collaboratively-minded colleague with an interest in engaging with communities and organizations across and outside the university. The position is part of a thriving public history program concentration in the master’s degree in History. Participation in departmental programs, service, and governance is expected of the successful candidate. Ph.D. in History or related fields is required by time of appointment, and the salary is commensurate with experience.
