Southwestern University, a national liberal arts college in the Austin, TX metro area, invites applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professorship in US History, to begin in August 2019. The ideal candidate will be able to contribute courses to more than one of our interdisciplinary programs in Environmental Studies, Feminist Studies, Latin American and Border Studies, and Race and Ethnicity Studies. The department especially encourages candidates whose research and/or teaching specializations incorporate the perspectives of marginalized or minority populations. Department responsibilities include teaching US surveys, other thematic courses on US history (preferably including courses that place the US in a global or world history context), and rotating with colleagues in the teaching of historiography and our senior research seminar in a 3/2 course load. Campus-wide responsibilities include advising students, contributing to the First-Year Seminar program, and university service.
Required qualifications include Ph.D. in History completed by time of appointment. Candidates must demonstrate commitment to and potential for excellence in undergraduate teaching, mentoring, and fostering student research. The successful candidate will also establish a productive research program. Candidates who have a strong commitment to enhancing diversity in academia are preferred.
