The Oklahoma State University American Studies Program invites applications for a career-track, non-tenure Teaching Assistant Professor position in American Studies to begin in August 2019. A PhD in American Studies and three years of college teaching experience in the field are required for this position. The ideal candidate will have experience teaching both introductory and advanced courses on a range of topics, including the intersections of race, class, gender and nation and the global contexts of national life; he or she should also have a track record of mentoring students on the completion of substantial research projects.
The position will primarily serve the Tulsa campus and involve a mixture of teaching, advising and service work, including community engagement and recruitment efforts on behalf of the program. The candidate will teach a wide array of general education, upper-division, hybrid, and online classes, including independent studies and Honors contracts. If the Program needs it, the instructor may be asked to teach a course at the main campus in Stillwater on occasion. The candidate should be prepared to teach our capstone senior seminar and to advise Liberal Studies and Honors students as needed. The teaching load will be 3:3 with advising and service duties.
Candidates will be expected to support the learning needs of students from diverse backgrounds, age and skill ranges; integrate multicultural experiences into instructional methods; and connect the university and its students to the surrounding community through internship development and community engagement initiatives.
