~~The Department of History at the University of Pittsburgh invites applications for a tenure-stream, assistant professor in 19th-century African American history focusing on the eras of slavery and/or Reconstruction. The successful applicant will join a department committed to effective teaching and a research university with great strengths in international, transnational, and interdisciplinary studies. The dossier must include: a cover letter containing a description of academic background and teaching experience, current curriculum vitae, email contact information for three recommenders, a research statement (2-3 pages with chapter descriptions, if appropriate), a writing sample (either an article-length essay or dissertation/book chapter including references), and a diversity statement that discusses how past, planned, or potential contributions or experiences relating to diversity, equity, and inclusion will advance the University’s commitment to inclusive excellence. Upon submission, each recommender will receive instructions for uploading letters to our system. Please notify recommenders that their letters are due by October 1, 2018.
