The Department of History invites nominations and applications for the position of Regular, Limited-Term Instructor (i.e., Visiting Instructor). This position is located on the Statesboro campus.
In January 2017, the University System of Georgia Board of Regents voted to consolidate Armstrong State University and Georgia Southern University. The new, 27,000-student university will be named Georgia Southern University with campuses in Savannah, Statesboro, and Hinesville. Within this setting, the Department of History offers Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts degrees in history and a graduate certificate in Public History. The department has 38 faculty members with diverse fields of expertise. The average upper-division class size is 25 students, ensuring that students receive one-on-one attention and develop strong working relationships with faculty. The Limited-Term Instructor of History will contribute to the Department’s mission by teaching introductory classes in World History.
Position Description. Reporting to the department chair, the limited-term instructor position requires teaching the equivalent of 5 sections of World History per semester. All limited-term positions are non-tenure track, academic (9/10 month) year appointments. Appointments are for one year only, although there is the possibility of reappointment should funding permit and based upon satisfactory performance. (All reappointments are made on a one year basis.) The salary is competitive and commensurate with qualifications and experience.
Required Qualifications:
• Earned master’s degree in History, or a closely related field with at least 18 graduate semester hours in History, by August 1, 2018.
• Must be authorized to work in the United States for the duration of employment without assistance from the institution.
Preferred Qualifications:
• PhD in History.
• Experience teaching large introductory lecture classes in World History.
Screening of applications begins June 8, 2018, and continues until the position is filled. The preferred position starting date is August 1, 2018.
