The Department of History at Indiana University seeks a Clinical Assistant Professor (non-tenure- track) for a twelve-month academic appointment beginning August 1, 2018, to oversee the department’s high school dual-enrollment program in U.S. history. A Ph.D. is required by the start date. We seek scholars with a wide knowledge of U.S. history and experience teaching the U.S. survey. Ideally, candidates will have some knowledge of the scholarship of teaching and learning and/or efforts to align higher education with K-12 standards and practices.
The new hire’s primary responsibility will be to align dual-enrollment classes taught in Indiana high schools with the U.S. survey course taught by regular faculty on the IU campus. Duties will include:
- Evaluating teachers who apply to teach H105/H106 dual enrollment courses
- Conducting site visits in person to every IUB-supervised high school course at least once a year
- Writing an annual review for each teacher in the dual-enrollment program
- Running a professional development workshop each semester
- Running summer training institute(s) for new teachers
- Developing and updating standardized U.S. survey syllabi
- Maintaining and disseminating teaching materials—including slide shows, assignments, lesson-plans, information fluency exercises, reading lists, primary sources, website resources, quizzes, exam questions
- Creating required reading lists
- Working closely with the IU dual-enrollment office
More on IU’s dual enrollment program, known as the Advance College Program (ACP) can be found at https://acp.iu.edu/. The successful candidate should be willing and able to drive up to 150 miles to make frequent site visits to Indiana high schools.
The new hire will also be expected to teach a half-time, 1-1 load in the history department, likely to include at least one U.S. survey course and one advanced course in U.S. history. The successful candidate may also be asked to teach an online graduate course for ACP teachers in the summer.
The salary is $60,000 plus benefits.
