Tenure-Track Assistant Professor in Chinese Linguistics and Chinese Language Education (Ref.: 201800359)
Applications are invited for a joint appointment as tenure-track Assistant Professor in Chinese Linguistics and Chinese Language Education in the School of Chinese (tenure home in the Faculty of Arts) and the Faculty of Education, to commence on September 1, 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter, on a three-year fixed-term basis, with the possibility of renewal and with consideration for tenure before the expiry of a second three-year fixed-term contract.
Applicants should possess a Ph.D. degree in Chinese Linguistics or in areas related to Chinese Language Education, be actively engaged in research, and have a substantial track record of research publications in these fields. The specific area of research in Chinese Linguistics is open. They should also be able to demonstrate an ability to participate in and support a vibrant and collaborative research culture. A strong commitment to the development of innovative research paradigms and pedagogical approaches is highly valued. The primary teaching responsibilities of the appointee will be at the undergraduate level, but he/she will also be expected to supervise M.Phil. dissertations and Ph.D. projects.
A globally competitive remuneration package commensurate with the appointee’s qualifications and experience will be offered, as well as annual leave and medical benefits. At current rates, salaries tax does not exceed 15% of gross income. The appointment will attract a contract-end gratuity and University contribution to a retirement benefits scheme, totalling up to 15% of basic salary. Housing benefits will be provided as applicable.
