The Faculty of Arts and Humanities of Heinrich Heine University Düsseldorf invites applications for a
Full (W3) Professorship of American Studies
to take up appointment on 01.10.2019.
We are looking to appoint a first-rate scholar whose research and teaching encompass the entire field of American studies. She/He should have a specialization in transcultural American studies as well as in comparative literary and cultural studies with a strong focus on strategies of textual analysis. She/He will be expected to participate in the BA program in American and English studies, the MA program in comparative studies in English and American language, literature and culture, the MA program in literary translation as well as in media and cultural studies courses in the Faculty of the Humanities.
The successful candidate’s international scholarly reputation should be documented by a distinguished record of publication in internationally respected journals as well as by success in the competitive acquisition of third-party funding. In addition to a strong commitment to teaching, she/he is expected to have international experience
and contacts, to cooperate in intra- and interdisciplinary projects, and to assume administrative responsibilities in the department, the faculty, and the university.
Applicants will be hired in accordance with the general prerequisites pertaining to service law of section 36 of the North Rhine-Westphalia University Act (Hochschulgesetz NRW) which require an aptitude for teaching, exceptional competence in research, and additional scientific achievements.
