The Hall Center for the Humanities is a focus of intellectual life for scholars in the humanities, arts, and humanistic social sciences at the University of Kansas and for members of the surrounding community. Its primary mission is to stimulate and support the research of KU faculty and graduate students in the humanities, arts and social sciences; its collateral mission is to sponsor special programs that engage the university and the wider community in dialogue on issues that bring the humanities to bear on the quality of life for all citizens. A full-time staff of seven work under the Director’s guidance: an Associate Director, two full-time programming support staff, a communications coordinator, a budget analyst, and two full-time grant development staff, along with two part-time graduate student employees. The Center is housed in a striking 14,000 square foot building that was completed in 2005. It has a substantial endowment and a current annual operating budget of approximately $1.3 million. The Director works with an external advisory board comprised of leaders from across Kansas and the greater Kansas City area and an internal executive board comprised of KU faculty.
Consideration of applications will begin on June 1, 2018 and continue until the position is filled; starting date is January 1, 2019 or later by negotiation.
