The Department of African American Studies, within the College of Arts and Sciences, seeks a Post Doctoral Researcher to join our team. The College of Arts and Sciences is the largest college and the academic heart of the university. The College hosts 81 majors. The Department of African American and African Studies is an interdisciplinary, tenure-granting department in the College of Arts & Sciences with fourteen faculty and affiliated faculty in departments across the university. We invite applications for a Post Doctoral Researcher whose work is situated within both the humanities and medical science. This position is a partnership with the OSU Wexner Medical Center Department of Biomedical Sciences and Anatomy; faculty in both units will provide mentorship for the researcher. The topical focus is open, but research must be interdisciplinary, focusing on the social, historical, or cultural dimensions of medicine for African Americans. The Post Doctoral Researcher will identify and select problems to be studied, prepare research results for publication, and prepare seminars, talks or lectures for results to internal and external parties. In addition to research, the Post Doctoral Researcher will also teach existing courses within African American Studies. A Ph.D. in African American Studies or another relevant field in the humanities or humanistic social science must be received by August 2018. Teaching experience is required.
