The Urban Studies Program at Rhodes College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor position focused on Health Disparities. This position is for the 2018-2019 academic year, beginning in August 2018. Rhodes College is especially interested in attracting candidates from historically underrepresented groups and/or those with demonstrated commitment to working with diverse and historically underrepresented populations. The Urban Studies program is an interdisciplinary program that includes faculty from a wide range of disciplines in the social and natural sciences, humanities, and the arts. Consequently, we encourage applicants from a wide-range of disciplinary perspectives including, but not limited to, health policy, population health, health equity, community studies, global health, prevention science, health economics, epidemiology, or public health.We welcome applicants whose teaching and/or research interests include social and health inequities in the U.S., as well as applicants investigating issues of health justice or of global/ international health equity that have relevance for U.S. communities. Teaching responsibilities will include three courses each semester, including an introductory health disparities course and upper division courses in the candidate's area of specialization.
