The Department of Social Sciences is seeking a permanent full-time Instructor of History beginning Fall 2018. The position will be primarily responsible for the teaching and management of U.S. History survey courses with a five-course load (15 hours) per semester. Candidates with teaching interests that supplement American history survey courses are encouraged to apply. A Master's degree is required. PhD is preferred. Responsibilities will include assisting the department with advising of history majors. Promotion as an instructor and to tenure-track maybe considered based on performance, research interests, and program needs.

Responsibilities:
80% Work Performed Teaching: Teach up to 5 courses per semester, implement and review effective teaching/learning processes, incorporating appropriate methodology, technology and other tools; Remain current in discipline and update course content when appropriate to reflect current levels of student knowledge in the discipline; Develop a system for ongoing evaluation of both teaching and learning, including expectations of student competency and student learning outcomes; Work in partnership with immediate supervisor through a formal system of evaluation of instruction to identify strengths and weaknesses and identify professional development activities to improve student learning.
20% Service: Maintain appropriate schedule of office hours for student access and inquiry; Work in partnership with student success personnel on student advising and orientation. Participate in institutional service roles such as but not limited to, college committees, club sponsorship, advisory committees, student/faculty recruitment and mentoring of new and part-time faculty.
Required Education/Experience/Skills:
Faculty members in the rank of instructor must hold at least a master’s degree approved by the University and recognized by the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools as appropriate to the academic area they serve; be knowledgeable in their discipline; and demonstrate the potential for effective instruction as evaluated by their peers, department head, and college dean. Teachers of record must possess minimum Southern Association of Colleges and Schools credential standards which normally include a Master’s degree with 18 graduate semester credit hours in the subject area or suitable approved justification
