Assistant lecturer (TVL-E13) in early modern Eurasian history at the University of Bonn, Germany, Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies.
Asymmetrical dependencies in social and/or foreign relations in Eurasia in the 15th-18th centuries, with an at least projected focus on the Russian Empire or its borderlands.
The assistant lecturer will complement the professorship in pre-modern social dependency in Asia in teaching and research, which concentrates on the area between the Arctic Ocean and the great mountain chains as well as on connections with the neighboring empires. The Bonn Center for Dependency and Slavery Studies https://www.dependency.uni-bonn.de/en investigates asymmetrical dependencies in social and foreign relations and scope of action of individuals and collectives in the global pre-modern. The University of Bonn offers a broad variety of pre-modern area studies and proximity to international organizations.
The position is fully funded for four to six years with the usual German social security package and offers the opportunity for qualification.
Completed university degree or PhD focusing on one of the fields mentioned above, knowledge of the German or English languages at conference level, of at least one of the languages of the spaces mentioned above, of the international debates on the history of partial territories of Eurasia and their relations, as well as slavery and social dependency in the Russian and/or one of the neighboring empires. Desirable are familiarity with (a) relevant source language(s), paleography and complementary sciences. It will be assumed that the candidate will take part in appropriate language and paleography courses such as funded by the priority program “Transottomanica” for members https://www.uni-giessen.de/fbz/fb04/institute/geschichte/osteuropa/forschung_neu/Transottomanica.
