African American History. Assistant Professor.

The Mississippi State University Department of History invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in African American history, beginning August 16, 2018. Successful applicants must have demonstrated competence in one or more of the department’s specialties of International Security/Internal Safety, History of Science, Technology and Medicine or Agricultural, Rural and Environmental History. Teaching responsibilities are two courses per semester. Offerings include a turn in the US survey and undergraduate and graduate courses in the area of expertise. Demonstrated ability to contribute to the department’s vibrant intellectual life is essential. 

A Ph.D. in African American History at the time of appointment is required. Expertise in one of more of the following areas-- International Security/Internal Safety, History of Science, Technology and Medicine or Agricultural, Rural and Environmental History—is also required. Evidence of successful teaching and publications are preferred. Advanced assistant professors are encouraged to apply.

Salary is commensurate with qualifications.
