The Interdisciplinary Humanities and Communication faculty in the College of Integrative Sciences and Arts on the Polytechnic Campus at Arizona State University invites applications for a Clinical Assistant Professor for the 2018-2019 academic year. The successful candidate will provide instruction in the areas of the history of engineering and the history of technology and/or science, as well as develop courses in related areas of candidate expertise in accordance with programmatic needs to engage audiences of major and non-major undergraduates at Arizona State University. The successful candidate will be expected to play a significant leadership role in the ongoing creation, delivery, and administration of our undergraduate major in the History of Science, Ideas, and Innovation. Course assignments are at the graduate/undergraduate levels, and may occur in a variety of modalities (online, on-ground, hybrid). The course load is determined by the faculty head and typically consist of four (4) courses a semester. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in service to the institution and profession as appropriate. This is a full-time, benefits-eligible, non-tenure eligible position renewable on an academic year basis contingent upon satisfactory performance, availability of resources, and the needs of the university. Required Qualifications:
- Terminal degree in History of Technology, History of Science, Science and Technology Studies, History, or related field at time of appointment
- Evidence of teaching effectiveness
- Excellent English written and spoken communication skills
Desired Qualifications:
- Demonstrated success meeting the needs of diverse student populations and/or reaching out to diverse communities
- Demonstrated potential to teach undergraduate courses in the history of engineering, the history of technology/science, and related topics
- Willingness and ability to develop history courses in candidate’s broad area(s) of expertise, aimed at non-history students, especially those in engineering and science majors common at the Polytechnic campus (e.g. engineering, automotive systems engineering, robotics, mechanical systems engineering, software engineering, information technology, biological sciences)
- Willingness and ability to develop upper-level history courses in candidate’s broad area(s) of expertise aimed at undergraduate majors in History and the History of Science, Ideas, and Innovation
- Experience related to administering programs or events
- Research publications related to profession
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in a team environment
