The American Studies Program at Montana State University (MSU), Bozeman, seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor. The successful candidate must have a PH.D. in American Studies or a related field by the start date, provide evidence of a strong interdisciplinary research program and of potential to become an outstanding teacher at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
We seek individuals who work professionally and effectively with diverse individuals, possess effective interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills and have the ability to contribute positively to the academic success of the students and the mission of Montana State University.
Duties and Responsibilities
This position will be a full-time, tenure-track appointment with primary responsibilities in research and teaching at the undergraduate and graduate levels in American Studies as well as in the department in which tenure will reside. The successful candidate will also be expected to engage in outreach in the broader community. The teaching load will be consistent with other faculty in the department where tenure resides.
Required Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Ph.D. in American Studies or related field, preference will be given to applicants with a PhD within a field currently within the College of Letters and Science (http://www.montana.edu/lettersandscience/) by start date.
Expertise in comparative multi-ethnic studies, or non-US perspectives on American culture.
Potential to publish high-quality, original scholarship in peer-reviewed publications.
Potential to excel as a teacher and mentor at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
Evidence of scholarly achievements commensurate with experience.
Evidence of excellence in teaching.
Preferred Qualifications – Experience, Education, Knowledge & Skills
Expertise in ethnography, material culture/museum studies, or sociology of the media.
Commitment to supporting, promoting, and building an inclusive and culturally diverse campus environment.
