Full-time appointment in Humanistic Studies Department. The Department of Humanistic Studies at Maryland Institute College of Art invites applications for a non-tenure track full-time 1-year special contract in Performance Studies & Theater to begin August 2018.
Job Description:
We seek a passionate teacher-dramaturge who can design and teach interdisciplinary courses ranging from performance theory and dramatic literature to the practical aspects of performance and staging (acting, directing, writing, costuming designing sets) to our undergraduate and graduate art students. In addition to teaching 18 credits per year, the outstanding candidate will also oversee our theater concentration and its production of one main-stage performance a year. Preference will be given to candidates interested in interdisciplinary performance studies, world theater or community theater.
The Humanistic Studies Department is the place where students engage in intensive and wide-ranging study in the humanities at MICA. Whatever their specialization, all full-time faculty must be prepared to teach the first-year foundation course in our department. The strong candidate for this position would contribute skillful teaching, devotion to the humanities, and a wealth of theater experience to this first-year program. Full-time faculty participate in all aspects of departmental operations and institutional governance, including departmental management, advising, institutional and departmental committee service, and scheduled departmental and student activities.
Requirements:
- Evidence of innovative and successful teaching in the field of performance studies.
- An MFA in performance studies, directing, acting, or dramaturgy
- Candidate must successfully complete a full background check
Valued, but not required:
- Ph.D. in the Performing & Theater Arts, or other comparable experience preferred.
- Professional or semi-professional directing, acting, dramaturgical, or related performance experience.
