The School of Culture and Society, Aarhus University, invites applications for a three-year position as assistant professor of Classical Archaeology within the Department of History and Classical Studies. The position is available from 1 February 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The BA and MA programmes in Classical Archaeology at Aarhus University are conducted by the Department of History and Classical Studies, which is also home to a thriving PhD student community. The department furthermore houses the Museum of Ancient Art and Archaeology (Antikmuseet). The Classical Archaeology programme at Aarhus University is characterised by its strong, international and interdisciplinary research profile, including UrbNet, which is a Centre of Excellence funded by the Danish National Research Foundation, and other associated research projects – many of which are externally funded.
The position is being offered with a view to attracting a talented scholar and teacher who is expected to play a key role in the continued creation of internationally recognised research areas within the field of Classical Archaeology at the department. The successful applicant will be expected to contribute to core activities at the School of Culture and Society in general and the research programme ‘Classical Antiquity and its Heritage’ in particular in the following areas: research, education, talent development and knowledge exchange. Applicants may also outline potential teaching and/or research activities which are relevant for the Museum of Ancient Art and Archaeology (Antikmuseet).
