Jewish Theological Seminary -- Post-Doctoral Fellowship in the Social Scientific Study of the Jews
The Jewish Theological Seminary invites applications for the Golda Och Post-Doctoral Fellowship for the 2018-2019 academic year, with the possibility of renewal for the following year. Preference will be given to candidates who study Jewish communities outside the United States or engage in comparative study of Jewish communities, and to those who study Jewish cultural and religious patterns and practices. Applications are encouraged from a variety of fields including, but not limited to, sociology, political science, psychology and anthropology.
The Fellowship provides a stipend of $50,000/year and faculty benefits, including funds for research and conferences. The Fellow will be expected to teach one course each semester during the academic year and present scholarly research annually both to the JTS faculty and in a public forum. The Fellow may not undertake any other sustained teaching or employment during the academic year.
Applicants must have earned the PhD within the past three years. Advanced doctoral students applying must include a statement from their dissertation supervisor indicating that they will have the PhD in hand by August 15, 2018. Applicants should submit electronically:
- A letter of intent stating how applicant would use the year to further research and scholarly publication and why JTS is the best place to do that
- A current CV
- Three letters of recommendation, including one that speaks to applicant’s teaching ability
- An essay or chapter-length writing sample.
- A teaching portfolio, including statement of teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, and course evaluations as available
JTS welcomes applications from all qualified applicants without regard to race, color, creed, religion, disability, age, sex, national origin, marital status, veteran status, sexual orientation, gender identity or any other factors as prohibited by law.
Applications should be sent to Postdoc@jtsa.edu.
Applicants who have submitted all materials by November 30, 2017 will be given full consideration.
