Assistant Professor of Early American History
The History Department at Widener University seeks a tenure-track assistant professor to teach introductory courses and upper-level seminars in Early American history beginning August 2018. Research fields are open and should complement existing faculty expertise. The department especially welcomes applicants who have research interests in the history of slavery and race and/or women’s history and gender, and who may contribute to the programs of African American Studies and Gender, Women, and Sexuality Studies. The successful candidate will have demonstrated excellence in teaching, be expected to pursue an active research agenda, and contribute to campus and professional service.
Qualifications: Minimum requirements are a commitment to undergraduate education and clear evidence of scholarly potential. Ph.D. in History is required. ABD candidates may be considered if the Ph.D will be completed by May 2018.
Responsibilities: Teaching responsibilities each semester will include two freshman-level U.S. history courses (pre-1876) and one or two upper-division seminars in the candidate’s areas of expertise. The candidate will also be expected to periodically teach the department’s sophomore-level historical methods course and senior-level research seminar. Teaching load is three/four (9 semester hours/12 semester hours).
