The Department of History at Washington State University invites applications for a tenure-track position in the area of Modern World History (19th-20th C.) on the Vancouver campus at the rank of Assistant Professor to begin August 15, 2018. Position duties include conducting independent research, teaching undergraduate and graduate courses, and mentoring students. In addition, the occupant of the position will be expected to perform service in ways commensurate with their training and rank. Required qualifications: (1) PhD in History (or strong evidence of completion of Ph.D. before employment start date); (2) Demonstrated expertise in modern world history; (3) Evidence of teaching ability and a commitment to mentoring students from diverse backgrounds; (4) Evidence of developing and maintaining a productive research program; (5) Demonstrated commitment to campus diversity efforts, social justice and inclusion (http://admin.vancouver.wsu.edu/office-chancellor/wsu-vancouver-strategic-plan). The successful applicant’s research will be transnational, and include regional expertise in at least one of the following: Africa, Latin America, the Caribbean. The successful candidate will teach the university’s innovative foundational course History 105: Roots of Contemporary Issues, contribute to the History department’s World History PhD program, and teach undergraduate and graduate courses in his/her areas of expertise. Teaching load is 2/2. Candidates must demonstrate strong research productivity and potential, and commitment to teaching and service. PhD in history required by August 2018.
