The Counseling Center at BMCC helps students realize their educational, career and personal goals. The Center is staffed with experienced mental health practitioners who not only work toward reducing the interference of everyday stress on goals and academic success, but who do so with a respect for multicultural issues. The Counseling Center is devoted to helping students succeed.
Reporting to the Director of the Counseling Center, the Associate Director of the Counseling Center (Student Psychological Counselor) will:
- Execute campus outreach initiatives, trainings, and workshops for psycho-educational, social, and academic issues to increase the visibility, accessibility and utilization of the Counseling Center by the campus community.
- Assist with organizing events and activities, and maintaining communications and marketing materials for the Counseling Center.
- Coordinate committee work of the Counseling Center.
- Assist with evaluating and assessing the Center and to improve services.
- Manage the daily operations of the center including creating policies and procedures for staff front desk operations and providing training for support staff.
- Participate in campus-wide retention and persistence outreach and activities.
- Provide assistance with major college-wide events such as commencement, orientation, registration, and honors convocation.
- Respond to students in crisis and provide short term psychological counseling as needed.
- Serve as the liaison to the college community in the absence of the Director of Counseling.
- May provide clinical supervision to some counselors.
- Provide and administrative and clinical supervision to manage student crises in the absence of the Director.
- Some evening/weekend hours are required.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree and six years' related experience required.
A Doctoral degree in Psychology to include Ph.D. and Psy.D. Programs (OR), a Master’s degree in an appropriate discipline for personal or psychological counseling and a New York State license as a mental health practitioner (psychology, social work, or mental health counseling). In addition, six years professional experience is required for all candidates.
The preferred candidate will have:
- Doctoral degree in Counseling or Clinical Psychology or Social Work.
- A current, valid New York State license as a mental health practitioner (PSY or LCSW).
- Experience with assessment and statistical analyses.
- Experience in a college or university counseling setting.
- Experience with bilingual student populations.
- Experience providing academic counseling or support services to student.
- A minimum of five-years' experience post-licensure.
- Experience with short-term, brief, and/or solution-focused interventions.

Manages one or more aspects of a college counseling center, integrating counseling services into a comprehensive student development experience.
- Manages a counseling center providing a variety of services
- Prepares schedules to provide the most appropriate coverage
- Develops and distributes counseling center communications to increase awareness by the College community
- Supervises and develops counseling faculty and staff
- Solicits and analyzes input from faculty, staff, clients, and others to improve counseling services
- Provides input to planning, evaluation, assessment and marketing of counseling services
- Participates in inter-divisional programs to increase student success and retention
- Performs related duties as assigned.
COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
$61,394 - $97,628
