The University of South Carolina invites applications for one full-time instructor in the Department of History to teach four courses per semester (8 courses for the academic year). This is a nine-month appointment, beginning August 16, 2017 and ending May 15, 2018. The salary is $42,000. Responsibilities include teaching undergraduate courses for the Department of History, supervising graduate-student teaching assistants or graders, and advising undergraduate students.

Applicants must hold an M.A. degree, and preferably a Ph.D. degree, in History at the time of appointment. Applicants must be capable of teaching introductory History courses that satisfy the University’s Carolina Core GHS requirements, particularly HIST 108, Science and Technology in World History. Ability to teach an additional introductory GHS course in American, European, Islamic World, East Asian, or African history is a plus. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated successful college-level teaching, and ability to teach History to students from a variety of majors and schools. Commitment to excellence in teaching and fostering student learning is expected.
