The University of Dayton invites applications for a full-time Lecturer in its Department of History. This is a one-year appointment with the possibility of renewal. The typical teaching load for this position is four sections of HST 103 per semester with the possibility of an occasional upper level course in the appointee’s area of specialty depending on departmental needs. The position begins on August 16, 2017. We require a PhD in history awarded by June 1, 2017. The field of specialization for the PhD in history is open.
We require a demonstrated ability to teach our HST 103 – The West and the World or similar course (HST 103 is the Department’s introductory course in Historical Study required of all students at the university, a survey of key themes in world history. Applicants must have a potential for excellence in teaching. Effective written communication skills are required. Preference will be given to applicants with demonstrated experience successfully teaching undergraduates and successfully working with students of diverse backgrounds.
