The History Department at the University of Toledo invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Modern (20th century) U.S. history to begin Fall 2017. The successful candidate will be expected to have a strong research agenda and employ innovative teaching methods. The teaching requirements for the position include sections of the U.S. and World History survey, upper level classes in Modern U.S. History, and graduate courses in U.S. History, historiography, and historical methods. The department of history offers undergraduate and graduate degrees (B.A., M.A., Ph.D.) and faculty members advise students at all levels. Applicants must submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, evidence of teaching excellence (e.g., teaching evaluations, sample syllabi, statement of teaching philosophy) and a writing sample of no more than 50 pages. Evaluation of submissions will begin on June 30th, 2017 and continue until the position is filled.
Candidates must have a Ph.D. degree in history or a scheduled dissertation defense by no later than October 1, 2017.
Area of specialization is open, but preference will be given to candidates with strong records in teaching and research in the history of race and ethnicity.
