JOB DESCRPTION
The Department of History at the University of Colorado Boulder (UCB) invites applicants for a one-year Research Associate in History and Pedagogical Design and Innovation to begin in the Fall of 2017. The successful candidate will work with the Department Chair and the Director of Undergraduate Studies to evaluate current pedagogical practices, ascertain learning goals, and design and plan for the implementation and assessment of curricular modifications for teaching and learning effectiveness in the history classroom. In addition to working closely with departmental faculty, graduate students, and undergraduate majors and minors to identify and redesign learning goals and pedagogical practices, the position will also teach one course in the spring semester. The position offers the opportunity to join a strong research faculty and to enhance the pedagogical dimensions of a research university. Likely outcomes include single- or co-authored papers on pedagogical design and implementation in the humanities; attention to using digital humanities tools and design in the history classroom; and best-practices recommendations for adoption and use in other humanities departments. In addition to assessing departmental practices, needs and goals, the successful candidate will attend related workshops and engage with campus networks for teaching and learning at CU Boulder to foster crossdisciplinary connections. The position is designed to help the selected candidate launch a successful academic career with a strong profile in history and pedagogy. Review of applications will begin on May 1, 2017.
TERMS AND TENURE
The one-year position will be based at the CU Boulder Campus and will begin in August 2017. This is a full-time, benefits eligible appointment and carries a stipend of $51,000. The fellowship is eligible for renewal for a second-year contingent on satisfactory performance, available funds, and the needs of the program.
QUALIFICATIONS:
The position is open to candidates who have earned a PhD in History by August 2017 (open to any field) with a special interest or specific additional training in pedagogy, and teaching and learning assessment and design. The candidate should demonstrate a commitment to teaching and learning through prior participation in workshops, programs, and/or publication record in this field. The ideal candidate should also have the ability to work collaboratively, and should have strong skills in communication, presentation and interpersonal interactions
