The University of California is a dynamic new university campus in Merced, California, which opened in September 2005 as the tenth campus of the University of California and the first American research university in the 21st century. The School of Social Sciences, Humanities and Arts seeks a lecturer(s) to teach courses in History for Fall 2017 and Spring 2018. Competitive candidates will have research and/or teaching experience in the field of Latin America. Preferred time period is nineteenth century to present regardless of geographic emphasis. We particularly welcome applications from scholars with research or teaching experience in one or more of the following frameworks: a) comparative/transnational; b) thematic (not only regionally focused); c) cover long time frames.

This is a limited-term appointment which falls under the purview of the agreement for the Lecturers Unit between University of California and the American Federation of Teachers. Masters in History or related field required, ABD or PhD strongly preferred. Experience teaching at the college or university level required. Must be able to provide a record of excellence in teaching.
In addition to teaching the course, the instructor is responsible for creating a syllabus, holding weekly office hours (2 hours/week), and grading examinations and/or papers. The instructor may also be required to hold discussion sections or supervise a graduate student teaching assistant. Although non-renewable, the expectation is that the successful candidate will be offered one academic year of full time employment.
Salary is based on an annual full time rate of $52,099.00.
