THE POSITION:
Iona College's Institute for Thomas Paine Studies, through the generosity of the Robert D.L. Gardiner Foundation, invites applications for a Postdoctoral Fellowship in American Revolutionary History. Scholars at any stage in their career are welcome to apply. The appointment will initially be for the Academic Year 2017-2018 and will be renewable for up to two additional years [budget and staffing needs permitting]. The Fellow must be in residence in the metro New York area for the Academic Year.
In order to enhance the academic reputation and scholastic networks of the Institute for Thomas Paine Studies, the Gardiner Fellow shall undertake research, teaching and scholastic/public engagement, such as:
- Conducting research, either of one's design and/or as part of the projects already underway at the Institute for Thomas Paine Studies, which shall lead to scholastic/public presentations and, ideally, publications in both peer reviewed and popular presses.
- Employing the resources of the Thomas Paine National Historical Association Collection for personal/student research, courses and public expositions.
- Helping to organize and host the Third International Conference of Thomas Paine Studies (Spring 2018)
- Teaching two courses per semester - courses shall entail classes in Colonial and Revolutionary History for majors [either preexisting courses or of one's own design] as well as elective classes as per departmental needs.
- Encouraging undergraduate research in Colonial and Revolutionary History
