The Department of Social Sciences at Tarleton State University is accepting applications for a full-time (nine month) tenure-track assistant professor in the history of Colonial and Early Republic America beginning January 2018. This position has a normal teaching load of twelve credit hours per semester. The chosen applicant will teach four courses each semester, including three sections of the American history survey course, either one or both of the two-part sequence. The chosen applicant is also expected to offer advanced courses within his/her area of scholarly expertise. In particular, he/she will be asked to teach advanced undergraduate electives in Colonial Era and Early Republic American history. The applicant is expected to pursue an active research agenda and to serve the department and university as required (see Tarleton State University Handbook for Faculty and Administrative Staff available at www.tarleton.edu).

Required Education/Teaching Requirements:
Candidates must have a Ph.D. (ABD status may be considered as long as all degree requirements, including dissertation, defense of dissertation, and comprehensive examinations, have been successfully completed by the time of appointment for the Spring 2018 semester- January 2018.)
Must have specialization in Colonial and Early Republic American history; Must have teaching experience, beyond service as a teaching assistant, in both halves of an American history survey course
Preferred Education/Teaching Requirements:
Evidence of teaching effectiveness (Please provide teaching philosophy, sample syllabi, assignments used and reviews of teaching with application.)
Demonstrated ability to obtain outside research fellowships and grants
