The Classical Studies Program of the Claremont Colleges invites applications for a one-year position teaching Roman history and Roman archaeology/material culture. This is a joint appointment between the Departments of History at Claremont McKenna College and Classics at Pitzer College. This is a full-time appointment that requires teaching three courses in the fall semester: Roman Art and Archaeology, The History of the Roman Empire (both survey courses), and an upper-level course in an area of the candidate’s specialization or chosen from the catalog. In the spring, the candidate will also teach three courses; any of these may be new courses in their field of specialization and/or offer courses already in the catalog.
Candidates may be ABD, but preference will be given to those having the PhD in hand. Application materials will be evaluated on a rolling basis until the position is filled, beginning March 1. The position begins August 1, 2017, and may include subsidized faculty housing with Claremont McKenna College, pending availability.
