Singapore Management University, Wee Kim Wee Centre Directorship
Singapore Management University is seeking to appoint a senior scholar to the directorship of the Wee Kim Wee Centre.
The Centre, first established as the Centre for Cross Cultural Studies in 2000, was founded to promote greater understanding of cultural diversity with a primary focus on activities and programs which have a clear cross-cultural dimension, and impact on the economic and social development of the region. It was renamed and inaugurated as the Wee Kim Wee Centre in 2002 to recognize the accomplishment and stature of the former President of Singapore Dr. Wee Kim Wee who lent his name to the Center in support of its mission. With its academic home at the School of Social Sciences, the Centre serves the wider University, including all six Schools at SMU, through its academic activities (research projects, educational initiatives and community outreach programmes).
SMU is seeking a dynamic and well-established academic leader, who possesses a PhD in a relevant social sciences/humanities field. The candidate is expected to have an outstanding record of research excellence, cross-disciplinary teaching experience, strong leadership quality, and an extensive network both in Singapore and internationally. The Director will lead the next phase of the Center’s development by shaping its research agenda, especially those relevant to Singapore, to respond to current imperatives and emerging challenges. The Director will also lead in the development of educational programs, knowledge repositories, and community outreach activities, thus strengthening stakeholder engagement and connections between the university and the community. The appointment may be made on tenure at the full Professorial level, depending on the academic achievement of the candidate.
Singapore Management University is committed to an interdisciplinary and integrated curriculum, and the director will have the opportunities to work with faculty across the social sciences and professional schools. The research support is excellent, and salary and benefits are highly competitive.
Full evaluation of applications will start from 11 February 2017. Interviews for shortlisted candidates are likely to be conducted soon thereafter. The successful candidate will be expected to start at Singapore Management University in July 2017 or at a mutually agreeable date.
