Visiting Assistant Professor of African-American History

The History Department at Hollins University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of African-American history. This is a full-time, visiting faculty position with a two-year appointment beginning July 1, 2017, with the possibility of renewal for a third year.
The teaching load will be six classes, and will include introductory-level US history survey courses, African-American history, and upper division courses in other areas of American history. Strong preference will be given to candidates with research interests and teaching experience in the following areas: history of the South, race relations, African diaspora, and/or history of slavery and the slave trade. Ph.D. and substantive college teaching required at the time of appointment. Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching effectiveness, three letters of recommendation, and graduate school transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable) to history@hollins.edu. Review of applications will begin January 31, 2017, and will continue until the position is filled. Final candidates will be subject to a criminal history background check.
