The History Department at Hollins University invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor of African-American history.  This is a full-time, visiting faculty position with a two-year appointment beginning July 1, 2017, with the possibility of renewal for a third year.

The teaching load will be six classes, and will include introductory-level US history survey courses, African-American history, and upper division courses in other areas of American history.  Strong preference will be given to candidates with research interests and teaching experience in the following areas: history of the South, race relations, African diaspora, and/or history of slavery and the slave trade.  Ph.D. and substantive college teaching required at the time of appointment.  Applications are sought from those who have demonstrated success working with diverse populations and share Hollins’ commitment to preparing students for leadership opportunities in a broadly diverse, global society.

Qualified candidates should submit a cover letter, curriculum vitae, statement of teaching philosophy, evidence of teaching effectiveness, three letters of recommendation,  and graduate school transcripts (unofficial transcripts are acceptable) to history@hollins.edu. Review of applications will begin January 31, 2017, and will continue until the position is filled.  Final candidates will be subject to a criminal history background check.
