Purchase College, SUNY, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in Modern American History (post-1865), starting in September 1, 2017. Candidates must have a PhD by Sept. 1, 2017, and strong teaching experience is preferred. Candidates should specialize in social history with a sub-specialization in African American history or diaspora studies. Candidates must be able to contribute to our Global Black Studies minor and serve an ethnically and racially diverse student body. Candidates interested in interdisciplinary research and gender and sexuality and/or popular culture history are especially welcome. Successful candidates must demonstrate their commitment to student learning and to a liberal arts education.
Teaching responsibilities are five courses a year plus supervision of senior research projects. A senior project is a college-wide requirement and signature feature of the Purchase curriculum.
