The Department of Germanic Languages and Literatures at the University of Virginia invites applications for the position of Coordinator of the Language Program. This appointment will be made at the rank of Lecturer, with a three-year renewable term. The Coordinator will have central responsibility for organizing and supervising the language program (at least first and second years). Teaching assignments may cover German language courses at all levels including advanced conversation. Other duties will include placement testing, the organizing of cultural activities (e.g. weekly Kaffeestunde, German films), and program assessment. They may also include instruction in language pedagogy, oversight of the German House, outreach programs, lower-division advising, and proficiency testing. Scholarly publication is not required or expected. Compensation will take the form of full-time salary with full-time benefits.
A Ph.D. in German or a related field is required by the appointment start date, as is near-native fluency or better in German and English. Teaching experience at the university level in the United States or Canada is preferred.
