The School of Critical and Creative Studies invites applications for a permanent position with a specialization in Indigenous Studies. The successful candidate will lead the enthusiastically supported development of Indigenous curriculum for the ACAD community, over 10% of whom self-identify as Indigenous. Candidates working within fields such as cultural anthropology, material culture, visual culture, art history, curatorial studies, public policy analysis, arts and heritage, and community relations advocacy are especially desirable. Knowledge of a diverse range of contemporary practices and contexts, and the ability to place these in the Canadian context, is required.
Responsibilities include:
Teaching introductory and advanced courses at the undergraduate level and, if applicable, graduate levels; pursuing a strong research agenda; developing new curriculum; mentoring students; School and College committee work; and participating in academic governance.
The successful candidate will have:
Completed or in process of completing a PhD in a relevant academic discipline by the date of appointment. Advanced PhD students (ABD) with a relevant specialization may also be considered. All applicants must demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching and have at least three years of teaching experience at the post-secondary level, evidence of an active research practice preferably with a particular focus on Indigenous knowledges, as well as evidence of engagement and collaboration with Indigenous communities, organizations, and institutions. Applicants must possess a demonstrable interest in working in an interdisciplinary and collaborative environment with faculty from studio-based programs, and have the desire and ability to engage with students in the context of studio-based art and design programs.
Assignment of rank will be commensurate with educational credentials, teaching and professional experience, as well as the candidate’s record of research and creative activities.

Students in the School of Critical and Creative Studies examine historical, critical, and methodological perspectives on the study of art and design. Students gain context for creative work in contemporary society, and are supported in becoming confident art and design practitioners.
SCCS programs offer courses in the following areas: Art History and Visual Culture, English Literature and Creative Writing, Humanities and Cultural Studies, Material Culture and Cultural Anthropology, Natural Sciences, and Professional Practices.
