The Music and Art Department at the Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) invites applications for an Assistant, Associate or Full Professor position. The Borough of Manhattan Community College (BMCC) is an integral part of City University of New York system with the largest college enrollment in the system of over 25,000 students. It is strategically located in downtown Manhattan in close proximity to the artistic communities of Tribeca and SoHo, the dynamic downtown financial district, and the center of New York City government at City Hall. The Music and Art Department is undergoing a process of growth and renewal and would like to attract new faculty that will share and contribute to this process through teaching, research and guidance in area(s) of Studio Art (Photograph). The department seeks a candidate with a specialization in Photography with an emphasis in Design to teach courses in photography and digital design, both practical and theoretical. They will share responsibility for committee and department assignments including administrative, supervisory, and other functions for the good of the institution. The successful candidate is expected to teach in the classroom, research, and provide guidance in area(s) of expertise. Research and publication are expected for tenure and promotion. Other areas of responsibility include curriculum development, participate in departmental and college-wide activities and committees, such as, grant writing, assessment, faculty development, mentoring student projects, and academic advisement. The qualified candidate must be able to work in either the Day or Evening/Weekend program, as needed by the Department. Ph.D. degree in area(s) of experience or equivalent. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated scholarship or achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. The candidate will have a minimum of three (3) years of professional experience in Photography, with a background in both digital and analog shooting, retouching and printing. Additionally, they should understand how to work with a range of approaches to image making in the support and development of photography and digital imaging curriculum, knowledge of historical and contemporary practice in photography, a record of exhibitions and the maintenance of an active studio photography practice. Current industry knowledge and experience in digital photography processes and techniques and expertise, experience and knowledge in digital photography and design software applications is essential. For Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor:
For appointment in Studio Art, an MFA and professional portfolio are required. Also required are the ability to teach successfully, demonstrated creative achievement, and ability to cooperate with others for the good of the institution. For appointment to Assistant Professor, an MFA in an appropriate field is required. For Associate or Full Professor, the candidate must have a record of significant achievement in the field. Three years college teaching experience preferred. Experience with instructional technology an asset. Closing Date: 12/23/16.
