Early American History - Kinder Institute Endowed Professorship in Constitutional Democracy
The Kinder Institute on Constitutional Democracy and History Department at the University of Missouri jointly seek an outstanding scholar of early American history, broadly defined as the chronological period circa 1750-1850, to appoint to an Endowed Professorship in Constitutional Democracy. The appointee will be a member of the History Department and the Kinder Institute, with a 2-2 teaching load. The position is open to all fields within this period, with particular hope that applications will be received from candidates working in the following areas: political, legal, and constitutional history; intellectual history; and transnational and imperial history. Scholars with research interests in African American, Native American, and women's/gender history, as well as the American Revolution are especially encouraged to apply. The ideal candidate would be a scholar whose work brings some of the aforementioned strands together in accordance with the interdisciplinary nature of the Kinder Institute. Though we hope to appoint at the associate professor level, superior candidates who would enter at other levels, including assistant, are also welcomed.
Supported by a generous grant from the Kinder Foundation, a family philanthropic foundation started by Rich and Nancy Kinder, the Kinder Institute is an interdisciplinary academic center jointly operated by members of the History and Political Science Departments, with participation from across the university. The Institute is quickly establishing itself as a center of excellence for research in the history and political thought of U.S. constitutional democracy, broadly defined.
