The Department of Writing and Rhetoric at Colgate University invites applications for a tenure-stream position at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning fall 2017. The department seeks a colleague prepared to contribute to its ongoing development of a program in rhetorical studies.
Required qualifications: PhD required in Rhetoric and Composition or Rhetoric and Communications; university-level teaching experience in first-year writing. Specialties include transcultural rhetoric, comparative rhetoric, and/or global rhetorics. Secondary specialties include ethnic studies in fields such as African or African Diasporic Rhetorics, Asian Rhetorics, Latin American Rhetorics, and/or Native American Rhetorics. We are also interested in a scholar whose work transcends traditional boundaries and who views the blurring of cultural borders as critical to an understanding of contemporary rhetoric. Research interest in multilingual/translingual writing, transcultural literacy, and/or global civil discourses is desirable, and experience with or interest in employing new pedagogical technologies would be welcomed. Teaching responsibilities: five courses per year, including introductory writing as well as intermediate or advanced courses in writing and rhetoric. The successful candidate will also be expected to participate in all-university programs, including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum.
