The Department of Religion at Columbia University invites applications for a tenured appointment in the area of religion and public life. The position can be filled at the rank of tenured associate professor or tenured full professor. Candidates in religious studies or in a cognate discipline in the humanistic social sciences, and who hold a distinguished record of scholarly contributions to the study of religion and public life, are encouraged to apply. Geographic region, discipline, and tradition are open. The successful candidate will contribute to mentoring and teaching at the graduate and undergraduate level in one or more of the department's current fields and interdisciplinary zones of inquiry. The successful candidate will also be expected to provide academic vision and leadership by serving as Director of Columbia's Institute for Religion, Culture and Public Life for one or two three-year terms. Applications should include a cover letter addressing current research interests, teaching and mentoring philosophy, a CV, and a list of references.
