The History Department at Dickinson College seeks to hire a tenure-track assistant professor with a focus in twentieth-century U.S. history, with appointment beginning July 1, 2017. Dickinson is a highly selective four-year, independent liberal arts college with 2,300 students. It is located 20 minutes west of Harrisburg and is a two-hour drive from Baltimore, Washington DC and Philadelphia. Areas of specialization for this position might include African American, Latino/a, or Asian American histories. The department is seeking someone who can help shape our curriculum on race, ethnicity, immigration and outsiders, someone who will bring diverse perspectives, experiences, and knowledge to the position. The teaching load will be five courses per year which will include a survey course in U.S. History since 1877, a variety of thematic courses, occasional courses in beginning and advanced methods, and advising of independent studies and senior theses. The ability to create an inclusive classroom for an increasingly diverse student body will be an important characteristic of the successful candidate.
