Center for Gender in Global Context (GenCen)

Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for Co-Director for International Research and Engagement at MSU's Center for Gender in Global Context (GenCen). GenCen is located in International Studies and Programs (ISP). The Center provides gender and women's studies leadership across MSU's research, teaching, and engagement mission. The Co-Director for International Research and Engagement will be appointed at least 50% and no more than 75% in GenCen, with the remaining time in an academic department or program. Exact percentages will be negotiated among the successful candidate, the ISP Dean, and the candidate's department/program. The appointment is 12-month.
The Co-Director's responsibilities include providing leadership and advocacy in women's and gender studies; catalyzing international research in one or more of ISP's key research areas (agriculture, food and environmental sustainability; health and nutrition; university and institutional capacity building; gendered violence; and women's and girls' empowerment); expanding and diversifying external funding for GenCen-related international research and programs; developing and supporting international partnership initiatives in line with ISP and wider university priorities; enhancing student experiences through international engagement; strengthening connections with MSU and GenCen international alumni and friends; strengthening cultural competencies in gender-focused international development and global studies; overseeing the GJEC Graduate Specialization and Program; supervising Center programs and staff with Co-Director.
Candidates must have a demonstrated research record or equivalent professional experience on gender and women's issues in one of the key MSU/ISP priority areas listed above; background in critical gender and development or gender and global studies; an earned Ph.D.; demonstrated administrative skills and ability to secure external funding from diverse sources; ability to work collaboratively with faculty and administrators from diverse academic units. Candidates must meet the standards for appointment to the rank of Associate or Full Professor in a tenure-stream or fixed-term status.
Experience with sustaining strategic partnerships with institutions around the globe and language fluency beyond English is preferred. Demonstrated ability to develop relationships with other gender-related programs nationally and internationally is desirable.
