Colgate University’s Department of Religion invites applications for a Tenure-Track position in HINDUISM AND SOUTH ASIAN RELIGIONS. The hire will be at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning Fall 2017; completion of Ph.D. is expected prior to, or shortly after, the date of hire. Specialization is open, but candidates are expected to have scholarly proficiency in the texts of Hindu traditions and the pertinent classical languages, the larger religious context of South Asia, and the ability to address dimensions of Hinduism in the modern world. Training in Religious Studies and familiarity with issues in the study of religion are required.
The annual five-course teaching load will include introductory and advanced courses in Hinduism and/or South(east) Asian Religions; Introduction to World Religions; and curricular contributions to Asian Studies. All Colgate faculty are expected to participate in all-university programs, including the Liberal Arts Core Curriculum. The position offers opportunities to be involved in interdisciplinary university programs such as Africana and Latin American Studies, Environmental Studies, LGBTQ, Middle Eastern and Islamic Studies, Peace and Conflict Studies, Women’s Studies.
