The History Department at Rice University seeks a historian of Africa, with a preference for pre-colonial or early colonial periods, at the rank of assistant professor, with strong transnational and global interests. Applicants must have received their Ph.D. by July 1, 2017. The successful candidate will be selected on the basis of excellent scholarship, evidence of outstanding undergraduate teaching, the ability to teach graduate seminars on Africa and to contribute to the graduate program in the broader Atlantic World.
